The FLIR M-626L Series Thermal Night Vision System was selected as the 2009 DAME Safety Category Award Winner and subsequently honored as the Overall winner, or best-in-show. First held in 1991, the DAME (Design Award METS) is recognized as the world’s leading design competition for new marine equipment and accessories. The DAME prize is awarded annually by an independent panel of judges for the best designed products at METS or Marine Equipment Tradeshow. Products compete in eight categories: marine electronics; interior equipment, furnishings, materials and electrical fittings used in cabins; marina equipment, boatyard equipment and boat construction tools and materials; deck equipment, sails and rigging; clothing and crew accessories; lifesaving and safety equipment; machinery, propulsion, mechanical and electrical systems and fittings; and marine related software.

The M-Series incorporates a micro-lux, low-light camera for improved visibility during twilight hours and a 26-degree field of view - an improvement of 25% over previous cameras. The judges were impressed by the unit's sleek design, Ethernet capability, and ease of installation by any OEM. The jury felt that the unit provides user satisfaction beyond anything currently on the market. Even in total darkness the captain of a vessel can see channel markers, other boats, people in the water, and the shore line from greater distances than ever before.
