How Fast Do Your Hands Freeze?

Don't try this at home! In this video we expose human hands to temperatures below 23ºF (-5ºC), and the results after only one minute reveal why it's so important to keep your extremities covered in below freezing weather:

Of course, 23ºF is nothing. Health professionals estimate that when you're exposed to below zero temperatures, it can take only 30 minutes for exposed skin to get frostbite (1). With cold temperatures caused by the Polar Vortex approaching, be sure to limit trips outdoors and wear insulating clothes that protect your hands, feet, and face. Stay warm and stay safe!
