What would happen if you plugged only one of the CL full connections of the SC8000 camera into an existing CL base frame grabber? Would you get any usable image data at all?

No, the SC8000 is only able to output CL Full so you can't just connect one cable.  If you don't need to capture max frame rate you can use the GiGe port.  It will output up to 40fps at full window size.
