FLIR RS-Series

Long-Range Science Cameras

Long Range, Measurement Ready

When the object is distant, fast, or fleeting, a clear image is only the beginning. FLIR RS-Series cameras combine cooled MWIR imaging, calibrated radiometric data, flexible optics, and range-ready synchronization for teams that need to measure what happened, not simply watch it.

Why RS · Engineered for Long-Range Science

Built to measure, not just to watch.

Long-range testing is unforgiving. Objects shrink, events happen quickly, and the final deliverable has to stand up to analysis. The RS platform is built around the things range teams care about after the image is captured: calibrated data, optical flexibility, timing, and repeatable measurement.

01

Continuous Metric Zoom

Reframe distant objects without giving up the focal-length information needed for advanced measurement workflows.

02

Calibrated Data, Pixel by Pixel

RS cameras are built for radiometric analysis, giving researchers measurement data rather than display imagery alone.

03

Range-Ready Integration

Rugged housings, synchronization, IRIGB timing with <10us latency, and flexible interfaces help the cameras work inside real open-air test environments.

Built for Science Beyond a Single Range

Long-range measurement, across numerous research fields.

Ideal for aerospace testing, scientific research, optical instrumentation, ballistics research, atmospheric studies, academic research, industrial thermal characterization, and other long-range imaging applications.

The RS Family

Three cameras. Three ways to solve the range.

Choose by the combination of resolution, speed, sensitivity, and workflow your application needs - not by focal length alone.

Four times the detail. Same range setup.

Designed for range scientists, researchers, and engineers who need more information from distant and fast-moving targets, the RS8480 brings 1280 × 1024 HD MWIR imaging to the proven RS range platform. Four times the pixels of 640 × 512 VGA gives teams 2× linear sampling across the target, while calibrated radiometric data turns the image into measurement.

Continuous 50–250 mm metric zoom, optional 150–750 mm reach with the 3× afocal multiplier, range-grade timing, and the familiar FLIR Research Studio workflow give existing RS users more detail without starting again.

Resolution · Pixels on Target

When the object gets smaller, the answer shouldn’t.

The RS8480's 1280 × 1024 detector captures four times the pixels of 640 × 512 VGA and gives 2× linear sampling across the same object. That additional spatial information helps range teams preserve more detail at distance.

Which Camera Should I Choose?

Match the camera to your measurement challenge.

The right camera depends on what you need to resolve, how quickly the event unfolds, and the detector, resolution, and platform that best fit your workflow.
Choose RS6780 When

FLIR RS6780

You need proven VGA performance on an established platform.

A strong fit for established workflows requiring 640 × 512 imaging, 50–250 mm continuous metric zoom, and flexible windowing.

Choose RS8480 When

FLIR RS8480

You need HD detail without changing the platform around it.

Choose RS8480 for 1280 × 1024 HD MWIR, 2× linear sampling versus VGA, continuous metric zoom, and factory spatial calibration capability in the proven smaller RS chassis.

Choose RS8513-HS When

FLIR RS8513-HS InSb

You need high-speed HD and the highest sensitivity.

Choose RS8513-HS when speed and sensitivity are the differentiators, with 1280 × 1024 resolution and flexible windowing on the X-Series-based platform.
