Information regarding the air freight of batteries

This is updated information with reference to Product Bulletin 2016-13 regarding the air freight of batteries.

Effective from April 1, 20161, the IATA (International Air Transport Association; http://www.iata.org) will be changing certain regulations relating to the air freight of lithium ion batteries.

This document summarizes and explains the consequences for FLIR.

Applicability The regulations only apply to batteries that are shipped as separate items, i.e., outside camera cases.
Charging level Batteries must not be charged to more than 30% of their rated design capacity. (At present, our batteries are charged to about 60–70%.)
Number of batteries An individual shipment must not contain more than two (2) batteries.
Expected delivery stop From March 28 until about July 1, given the first indications from the battery supplier. Note that the delivery stop may be longer or shorter. FLIR subsidiaries have been requested to keep a larger stock of batteries to cover for customer needs during this period. The aim is to ship separate batteries from the subsidiaries by truck/boat, and to use air freight for all other parts. Please be aware that there will be a greater need for partial/separated shipments during this period.
Last date for placing purchase orders March 22 (if ordering separate batteries that require shipment before April 1).
