June Developer Update

As I write this, I’m in London getting ready for this weekend’s 2016 Hack the Heat London event. I’m really excited about this one. Hosting developer events is an important part of FLIR’s effort to rally a global community of developers around creating cool new thermal imaging-focused apps and solutions for consumers, and as you can see from the 2016 San Francisco event highlight video, these events are really hot.

Why am I excited about this weekend?

First, there are currently 189 registered participants, and if this group is anything like last year’s, we’re in for a great event! Check out last year’s recap.

Second, there’s something very cool happening at this event – Bullitt Group, makers of the new Cat S60 smartphone with powered by Lepton, has signed on as an event sponsor and will officially kick off the Early Developer Program for the Cat S60 SDK on Friday night. They’ll have S60 smartphones and a beta release of the SDK available at the event. This is the very first time and place developers will get access to this very cool new device. Stay tuned here in the next couple weeks for word on how you can apply for inclusion in this program and start developing apps for the S60.

Finally, we’ve tweaked our event formula a bit and have issued some compelling new hacker challenges with great prizes to match, and I really can’t wait to see what the London hackers and makers come up with!

On the subject of new SDKs and apps, we’ve just released an update to the FLIR ONE Android SDK. It fixes several outstanding bugs, so if you’re working on Android FLIR ONE apps, you should check out this latest version. If you’re a registered developer, visit the SDK download page to update.

I’m also pleased to announce we just approved the Android app ThermoVisual Motion Detector for FLIR ONE from Mobile Toys and Tools – a well-designed, flexible, and very useful motion sensor app that can detect and notify you of motion in a variety of ways. Visit the Play Store for more info and to download the app.

On the iOS FLIR ONE app front,we also recently approved Boat Beacon with FLIR ONE support from Electric Pocket. This app is really useful to boat and ship captains, and it’s getting some really good reviews in the press. As a boater myself, I’m looking forward to putting this particular app to use!

FLIR ONE apps that are motion detectors, navigational aids, equine care tools… what will thermal app developers think of next? Stay tuned!

Best,
