The original battery cell used in FLIR ix series cameras (i2, i3, i5, i7) is not manufactured anymore and we have been forced to find a suitable replacement. The replacement battery cell has a different discharge characteristic compared to the original battery cell. This means that the battery level meter in a FLIR ix series camera will give false indication if the new battery is used in an old camera.
In this context, an "old camera" is identified by the following serial numbers:
- Cameras with serial number starting with 393, 417 or 470.
- Cameras with serial number starting with 601 and delivered in 2011 or 2012.
Part numbers for batteries giving false battery level indication:
- T198470; New battery, different characteristic.
- T198470ACC; Spare part battery (in box with label for Li-Ion batteries).
False indication behavior:
- The red "Battery low" icon will occur when half the capacity is left.
Note: The camera can be used for a long time while the "Battery low" icon is visible. The camera can be used until the camera shuts down by itself. However, the camera shall not be stored for a long time in this condition. - The new battery will also give a slightly shorter run time in the old cameras.
- After a couple of charge/discharge cycles the camera will, to some extent, adapt to the new battery cell.
Cameras with serial number starting with 601 and delivered in 2011 or 2012 can be upgraded to solve the problem of false indication. For more information please contact your local FLIR Service center.
